On to Howe, Indiana
Today was probably the hardest driving day we have had. Started out just fine but south of Chicago and until around Elkhart we had to contend with 4-6 lanes of traffic each way and road construction. WHOAAAAAA, we were used to 2 lanes and basically no traffic. Also, we hit the first of the toll roads. The first segment was a pleasant surprise at only $1.70. Then we had to pull a ticket for the second toll area. We couldn't reach it so I had to get out and grab the ticket, even though the signs said not to get out of your vehicles. I was quick ! ! !. We then traveled to the exit for Howe where we were getting off the I-80/I-90. We needed to get in the cash lane to pay so Ken had to squeeze through a tiny lane. Thank goodness he was creepy crawling since he hit the right mirror on the post. No damage, just yellow paint from the pole. It was very tight and the toll was $19.90. WOW, since today has been roads in the worst repair of our trip we didn't expect that high. Wonder what they spend the toll money on. The last issue was actually getting to this resort. GPS and Mapquest couldn't identify the exact address so about an hour and a half out I called. She gave great instructions except for the very last turn. She said left instead of right. We found ourselves out in the boonies. Ken pulled over to let the cars behind us pass and figure out what we wanted to do since it wasn't looking like we were going the right direction. A truck had pulled up behind us and low and behold it was a very nice local man who lived just up the street. Since we were on a very small back road with a 40 foot motor home and towing a car, he took us "around the block". We would never have found this route. He actually led us clear into the park. Very nice. We were very thankful for him. Hopefully, this will be the worst of the driving days. Beautiful weather here again. We seem to be staying ahead of an oncoming storm. The resort brocure says that we are in "The Heart of Amish Country". We didn't know that !!
