A couple of long traveling days. Yesterday reminded us of Oregon, cloudy and drizzly. Not fun just traveling through the farm land of Iowa. Miles and miles of corn and soy beans. Iowa does not mow the grass on the side of the road like South Dakota and their roads are not nearly as good either. It is interesting that there is so much wind in SD that there are the signs to close the highways, but no windmills and in Iowa, there is basically no wind but there are windmills everywhere. Very different states. Iowa is pretty flat compared to the rolling hills of SD too. Woke up today to fog that cleared to a beautiful day...
Last night we stayed in Missouri Valley, Iowa at Wilson Island State Park. Not exactly on the Missouri River but they say that they are. There are no camp sites that can see water but you can walk to it. Not very pretty at this area since there is a rock quarry on the other side and several barges covered in rock just across from the boat ramp in the park.
Tonight we are in Colona, Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from Iowa. We are staying at a park that used to be part of our RPI park system, $15.00/night and they honored that price. Apparently the park has been given to the City of Colona. What a gift. They are very nice here. We found out that we are only about ten miles from LeClair, Iowa, home of Frank and Mike from Antique Archeology. We are headed there tomorrow to visit the town and their shop ! ! ! Found out by chance that this is where they are located. In the show they just always mention that they are from Iowa ! ! Back across the Mississippi tomorrow ! ! !
