Plymouth Rock is so small from what I had in my mind. Apparently it is a lot bigger underground but still it is really small.
Then on to the bay with a tour of the Mayflower II. So hard to image that 102 people lived on that ship for 66 days while sailing the seas from England to Plymouth on the original ship. The tour included actors in period clothing and language, so interesting. The Mayflower II was completed in 1957 and was sailed from Plymouth, Massachusetts to Plymouth, England.
Most of the passengers spent the majority of their time in bed, cold and seasick, as there was no room when you consider 102 passengers.
This fireplace is not for heat, it is strictly for cooking. The ship had no heat at all. Something I had not thought about was that they had to carry all the for fires so they were very limited.wood
The bay was still filled with beautiful private boats.
On to the Plimoth Plantation, yep, that is the correct spelling. Plymouth is the English spelling. We had lunch at the plantation. It was dubbed as "A Taste of Two Cultures". Our favorite was called Sobaheg, a Wampanoag recipie of venison stew. Very tasty. Also served was turkey with sauce, not to be confused with gravy and fricassee of fish. For "salad" there was succotash which is corn, green beans and squash as well as vinegar cucumbers. Dessert was cheesecake but to us it was more like rice pudding without the rice. All very good!!
We learned today that the pilgrims were not the first settlers in this area. The Wampanoag Indians were already here. They all lived together in peace. The Wampanoag language is still alive today both oral and written forms. This is a little of the Indian Village.
The English settlement was very interesting also.
Here's hoping that we really do pick up the RV tomorrow especially since they have already received half the bill money! If all goes well, we will go back two hours to Concord NH, to the hotel we were staying at, to get our mail that we had forwarded and then on to Warner about twenty miles away where the RV is. THEN, we will join the Fantasy RV Tour group at their campground. They will all be enjoying a free day but that is okay if all works out for us. Then Friday we will be touring Rhode Island.
