OMG, we have never seen anything like this before except in Hong Kong and China where we didn't even drive ourselves... First we decide to follow a group of three other RV's from Connecticut to New Jersey and we are the fourth in line, so we won't get lost. About half way through our trip the leader passes by our exit. Being the fourth rig, we see it but what to do. Follow the leader or go the correct way??? LOL. We are great followers and so we followed knowing it was the wrong way. Ended up about 20 miles out of our way. The leader thought they had figured out an great alternate route, however, the sign says "Passenger Cars Only". Where do we see that in the west?? Can't tell that from the maps. Very interesting trip but we did get to Jersey City on time. We had to get ready to tour in about an hour. We are literally right across the Hudson River from Manhattan. What a view. I am just gonna post pictures for you to enjoy. The tour guide was great but you just couldn't up with her. She had something to say about every block and who can remember anything after that much info. We went through so many areas such as: Soho, East Side, West Side, Manhatten, Greenwich Village, Financial District and on and on. I love that every building was different architecture. Mostly beautiful but oh so crowded. The most amazing thing is that we can sometimes see the Statue of Liberty from our campground in Jersey City. It is pretty foggy, smoggy and cloudy but we did see it soon as we got here. NICE !!
The most interesting part of New York was seeing where Captain Sully Sullenberg landed the plane in the Hudson River in 2009. The low grey building has the nuclear powered sub The Intrepid next to it and he landed the plane right in front. Just doesn't seem possible. What a great pilot !
We drove around Manhattan, parts of which totally reminded me of Hong Kong, and then we took a nighttime cruise around the Statue of Liberty. What an amazing site. Of course, every major television studio is in New York City too.
We were advised not to use taxi's as they charge $3.50 - $4.00 just to get in and then by the minute, so if you are caught up in traffic, the meter is just ticking away. That is why you see people jump out of them in bad traffic. Suggested that you rent a car which will charge from point A to point B no matter how long it takes. Very interesting. But, of course, subway or bus was the most reliable.
Dinner at the Peking Duck was every bit as good as it was in China. Wonderful and plenty of food. Everyone just rolled out of the restaurant> ! ! !
Nighttime was a water taxi tour around the Statue of Liberty. What a great site!!
We learned that the statue is about 305 feet tall, 150 for the lady and 150 feet for the base. Absolutely beautiful ! !
