Fun Free Day! !
What a fun day this was, partly because we didn't leave until 10:00am. Sleeping in is such a luxury. First we went to the Shirley Plantation. Eleventh generation of the family still live on the second and third floors. Next we went to the Berkeley Plantation, as with the Shirley Plantation, it is also right on the banks of the James River and family still live in the upper floors here too.
Cotton grows everywhere
The main house
This is one of the "side" buildings that flank the plantation house. They create balance on the plantation.
The arbor in the garden
This is America's oldest family owned business
We rode the free ferry from Jamestown to Surry. Wanted to go to Smithfield and find the famous hams but we ran out of time.
