Another amazing day. You really have to be there to truly feel the effect of the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Fantasy RV Tours got permission to place a wreath at the site and four of our group were allowed to participate in the ceremony. Very moving even though the Unknown Soldier Tomb is now empty as the previous remains had been recently identified with new DNA science and returned to the family in St Louis. The Guard marches a very regimented march of 21 steps and then stands for another 21 seconds after his gun routine. There is a distinct mark on the carpet that they walk.
This is the John Kennedy eternal flame site. He, his wife Jackie and two stillborn children are buried here. It is said that President Kennedy stood at this exact spot not long before he was assassinated and said that he could spend the rest of his life right here as it was so peaceful and beautiful. Son, John Jr., did not "qualify" to be buried here.
Robert Kennedy's burial site, very simple but powerful.
I thought that considering why we have Arlington, it is a beautiful place. Was surprised to see lots of trees.
One of the Department of Agriculture Buildings. They have plants from every place in the world.
Renovations on the Capitol with sculptures everywhere for everything.
This is the Jefferson Library in the Library of Congress
On the way home more buildings !
This is a close as we could get to the White House
Sunset over the campground
