We spent a few hours looking around this huge complex. Milton Hershey was quite a man. He has spent a lot of money helping others. One big thing is the school that he has on 10,000 acres. He enrolls 400 new students each year. They must not have any money for education in the family. The students can earn points for behavior and grades, etc. Then at graduation, if they earn enough points, he gives each one $90,000 towards any college of their choice. WOW, what a generous man. We drove through the campus getting to Hershey. What a beautiful place it is. He also is involved with Medicine and lots of other local things. He apparently made sure that all his employees also had paid for homes. Nice.
Another Amish buggy came through the camp after dark last night and the same family came through again tonight, after dark. I feel so bad for them because most people don't notice that they are out there since everyone pulls their curtins down after dark. Anyway, he was selling sewn goods that his wife made and pottery that he made, I bought a piece of pottery from him. Also this afternoon some Amish kids came through selling the mini pumpkins, gourds and dried corn. Just what I wanted and only $.50 each. Quite the buy!! Now I am decorated for fall ! ! !
Tomorrow is a really full day, we catch the bus at 7:45am. Off to Pittsburgh !!
