On to Destruction Bay, Yukon from Tok, Alaska

The first town past Tok is the North Pole. You can actually take your Christmas Cards to the store and they will hold them and mail them just in time for Christmas.  Wish I was that organized this year...  Did send the grandkids some postcards from there..  Hope they notice ! !

We stopped at a Knotty Store, we call them burls in the Northwest...  LOL  Amazing work but pretty expensive.

Driving from Tok we finally saw some amazing views of Denali.  Never totally uncovered but still beautiful in the blue, blue skies of Alaska ! !  Hard to capture it perfectly with a camera. Just amazing, it is over 20,000 feet and it's told that it creates it's own weather system up there. Denali is hiding there in the clouds but peeking out every once in a while! !

Boy, the fireweed is telling us that winter is only about six weeks away when temps will drop to minus 40 degrees ! !  A little too cold for me.

Passed more pipeline..  Amazing that this runs 800 miles both above and below ground.

The Alaskan Highway ends in Delta Junction so we took pictures at the beginning and at the end.  Here we go !

We saw this moose on the way through all the construction. He sure didn't like all our engine noise. See, he is taking off ! ! Construction was only about 30 miles and we all decided that it was not as bad as the Top of the World Highway. It was raining most of our travel time so that really helped it not be dusty.  Only had the bad dust about the last ten miles. The "bad" road was about 30 miles broken up...

Loren at the Destruction Bay Lodge fixed a really yummy dinner for us, roast beef, potato salad, wonderful green salad, rolls and Apple Betty.  Then had a singer/storyteller for the entertainment.  Great stories and Loren closed with a poem about his life and one more song!  He tells us that the permafrost is 160 feet thick here and only 38 people live here year round.  His lodge sits with a terrific view of Lake Kluane (Kluwanee) which means big fish.  The Lake is 50 miles long which makes it the biggest in the Yukon. During the winter it is covered in at least six inches of ice. Beautiful area, of course ! !   LOL  Tomorrow on to Skagway !
