Acting like a tourist in Kentucky ! !

What a great day with Mike, Kelly, Charlie and Macy..  We started the day driving into Louisville about an hour away.  For a "big" city, we were really surprised by the lack of tall buildings and all the back roads.  It was very nice to see.

This statue is on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Louisville

We parked the car and started with a tour of the Evan Williams Distillery.  Very interesting. Learned a fun fact...  bourbon has to be distilled in Kentucky and have a certain percentage of corn.  If not, it is whiskey!!

We on to Churchill Downs.  Was fun to see how the races worked since we had never been before.  Amazing, kind of looks like the middle of a casino at home. Everyone either running around to bet or finding something to eat.  The race is over so fast and on to the next one. Some people really seemed involved in the winning or loosing.  Not us, just fun to watch except the wind was biting cold! ! Thank goodness there was lots of window space to watch from inside or on the monitors.  We did stand in the sun some too...  fun times !!  We had passed quite a few beautiful horse farms driving through Tennessee and Kentucky as well as just between Louisville and Eminence.

Then out to dinner at Colonel Sanders wife's restaurant.  Sure can't remember her name now.It was a great sit down place. So funny as I hadn't ever thought of Colonel Sanders as being from Kentucky.  WOW, KFC stands for KENTUCKY Fried Chicken.  Too funny ! !

More snow pictures from the day after we got here to Mike and Kelly's

Today is Saturday, November 29, 2014 and Mike and Kelly went into Louisville for a football game.  We are watching the kids.  They are soooo good.  What a fun day, again ! ! !
